The Ghost Guide to Social Tango 2nd Edition: Blocks

6th March 2010

"Make block. Left, right. Up, down. Side, side. Breathe in, breathe out. And no scare fish." ~ Mr Miyagi

Introduction

The big thing is that the follower isn't anticipating and so is actually able to be blocked at any point. Otherwise she'll simply walk / kick her way through.

Musicality and floorcraft

The lead is from the chest rather than the foot. Blocks are a good way to pause due to the music or "traffic" and allow the follow to adorn. Also a good way to change direction.

Sandwich

A "sandwich" occurs any time on person's feet are sandwiched between the others.

This is another move that usually is danced as a sequence, when again you can simply step directly to it in a wide variety of ways. Some examples are shown in the clip.

Practice sequence - Giro

Lead a giro and practice blocking her at each step.
