Join us for our Learning Tango Summer Ball, an evening of social Argentine Tango dancing to a selection of lovely music.

We're delighted to welcome back the fabulous vocalist Ana Karina Rossi, performing exclusively for the Learning Tango Summer Ball, and providing a pre-ball musicality workshop before the milonga.

From 7:30pm - 11pm, DJ Barry James Leadbetter will play a full evening of music, with a lovely selection of Golden Age tracks.

We'll be provide free snacks and wine throughout the evening. And as if that's not enough, you'll also have a selection of fabulous shoes to admire and purchase.

Pre-Ball Workshop: Musicality, with Ana Karina Rossi, 5:30pm - 7pm

Ana will focus on dancing while listening to the music of styles including Pugliese, Di Sarli and D'Arienzo, showing us how to broaden our own repertoire and better enjoy our tango dancing.

Topics include:

  • Musical forms: rhythmic differences between Tango, Vals and Milonga.
  • Styles: Canaro, Di Sarli, D'Arienzo and others.
  • "Tempo" & "Rubato": speed changes and typical phrasing of tango.
  • New Tango: Pugliese and Piazzolla style, and contemporary Tango.

Live Music - Vocalist Ana Karina Rossi

We're delighted to welcome back the marvellous vocalist Ana Karina Rossi, exclusively for the Learning Tango Summer Ball. Ana last performed for us at the Valentine's Ball in February, and I'm sure all of us who were there remember how special she made the evening. For the Summer Ball, Ana will be both performing throughout the evening, and providing a pre-ball musicality workshop before the milonga.

About Ana Karina Rossi

Ana has toured worldwide, and performed with many famous tango musicians and bands, including the band Trio Sur, founding Planeta Tango, and Uy Trio, working with artists including Miguel Angel Trillo and Alberto Magnone, In recent years, Rossi has collaborated with world-renowned musicians Gustavo Beytelmann, Miguel Angel Barcos, Natalio Mangalavite, Rudi Flores and Ciro Pérez.

Ana will be performing two sets during the evening for us - it's an opportunity not to be missed, and we very much hope you can join us for this.

Ana Karina is one of the new exciting tango voices from the River Plate and together with Horacio Ferrer, the greatest tango poet of recent times, has recently recorded her album “Tango y Gotan”.

Music - Guest DJ Barry James Leadbetter

We're also very happy to announce that DJ Barry James Leadbetter will be returning, to play a full set for this event.

Barry's tango journey started in the late 1990s, since that time he has made a study of the dance and its music, including several trips to Buenos Aires.

In 2006 Barry founded Tango Cats Bedford, a traditional club with the premiss of only playing the very best in danceable tango music. Barry is now one the most sought-after DJs around, and has played sets in many venues around London and across the UK. We're very happy to have Barry playing a set for us at our Summer Ball!

Snacks and Wine

We'll be doing a great set of Learning Tango Empanadas, with a mothwateringly-gorgeous selection of chicken, beef and veggie empanadas to choose from.

We'll also be providing free wine!

St. Paul's Hall is a lovely venue, with a large sprung dance floor, and plenty of on-street parking outside the venue.

Getting there

By car:
The venue is easily accessible by road - ten minutes from J2 of the M1, or 20 minutes from the M25.
There is also plenty of free parking on the road outside the venue.

By public transport:
From Mill Hill East Tube Station (Northern Line), take the 240 bus in the direction of Edgware. Alight at either the Mill Hill School or The Three Hammers Public House stop.
From Mill Hill Broadway (First Capital Connect), take the 240 bus (stop outside WH Smith) in the direction of Golders Green. Alight at either the Mill Hill School or The Three Hammers Public House stop.
