Milonga Abierta with Canyengue Workshop: Saturday 3rd November 2018

Milonga Abierta is the Learning Tango style of milonga, on every First Saturday of the month. We have an "open" approach; open to new dancers, open to new music, and open to new ideas.

8pm - Midnight, Apsley Community Centre, London Road, Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, Herts HP3 9SB. (directions).

Milonga Abierta is the ideal milonga for those who want to enjoy a perfect mix of gorgeous Golden Age traditional music, mixed in with the best of Neo and Alternative tango tracks throughout the evening.

We also have a lovely line up of live music, guest DJs and guest workshop teachers for these events - see Future Dates for details.

Specialist Workshop: Tango Canyengue, 6:30 - 7:45pm

As part of the November Milonga Abierta, we're please to present a specialist workshop on Canyengue ("Tango before Tango"), delivered by Antonio and Katherine.

Suitable for all levels - if you came along for the last Canyengue workshop in February, you'll remember how much fun it it. If not, come along to be introduced to "Tango Before Tango"!

About Canyengue

Tango as we know it today originated from the combination of several styles of music and dance. One of the main influences comes from a very early dance and music style called Canyengue. Canyengue was mainly diffused in Argentina between the end of the 19th and the first two decades of the 20th century and was eventually partly absorbed into what would become "conventional" Tango and partly abandoned.

During this workshop, Antonio and Kat will explore some of the key features of Canyengue and briefly how this dance evolved into Tango, how it differs from it and what its music sounds like.

About Antonio and Katherine

For the last two years Antonio and Katherine have been learning Canyengue from Monica and Omar Ocampo, world famous dancers, teachers and performers of Tango and Argentinian Folklore. Under their direction and legacy, Antonio and Katherine have been especially trained to teach Canyengue, and they are now working towards reviving this great and fun dance style.
